About Prada
Prada began in 1913 as a leather goods business founded by Mario Prada (Treccani). Its first shop opened that year in Milan, in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II (Prada Group). His granddaughter Miuccia Prada took over the direction of the house in 1978 (Treccani), and with Patrizio Bertelli she built the model for its international growth (Prada Group). In the early 1980s she introduced bags in high-tech materials (Treccani), and she became known for unconventional materials such as industrial nylon (Britannica). In 2020 Raf Simons became co-creative director of the brand alongside her (Prada Group).
Luxe Charts follows five Prada bags: the Galleria in Small and Medium, the nylon Re-Edition 2005 and Re-Edition 2000 Mini, the Cleo and the Arqué Small.
Rebag’s Clair Report measures the share of the retail price a bag keeps at resale. It gave Prada an average value retention of 57% in 2023 (Rebag, 2023), and its 2024 edition credited the Re-Edition 2000 Hobo, which kept more than its retail price, for Prada’s growth (Fashion Dive, 2024). The Re-Edition 2005 was among Rebag’s most favourited handbags in 2021 (FashionNetwork, 2021), and the Re-Edition was Rebag’s third most searched bag of 2023 (Rebag, 2023), a year in which the Cleo also appeared among its most searched styles (Rebag, 2023). The RealReal’s 2026 resale report places Prada among its five most searched brands (FashionUnited, 2026).
