How the index is built

The bags

A bag enters the index only if we checked its boutique price by 31 December 2020, and no more than 180 days before that date. Today 34 bags from 7 brands meet this rule.

The list follows from the rule, not from a choice. When we add a bag to Luxe Charts and find a check close enough to the base, it joins the index and the whole line is recalculated from December 2020.

The basket leans towards Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Celine: 27 of the 34 bags. That reflects which boutique prices we could check in 2020, not the weight of these brands in the market.

The base

For each bag, 100 is its boutique price at the last check up to 31 December 2020.

Prices are in euro, in the four reference markets of our model pages: France, Italy, Germany and Spain.

Month by month

Each month uses the price at the last check up to the end of that month. A price holds until a check shows another one. We never fill a month with an estimate.

The latest month runs to our most recent check, on 19 October 2026.

A month is drawn in light grey when fewer than 60% of the bags had a price check in that month or in the six months before it. The table of all months gives that count for each one.

Equal weights

Every bag has the same weight. The index is the simple average of the indices of the single bags, so the cheapest bag counts as much as the dearest.

The 114 models outside the index

A model stays out of the index for one of three reasons:

• No check by 31 December 2020. We have no boutique price for it at the base.
• Last check more than 180 days before the base. The price we have is too old to stand for December 2020.
• Price differs from country to country. The brand sets a different price in each market, so there is no single price to follow. Today this applies to Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels.

The list below names each one with its reason. It comes from the same data as the index.
