About Louis Vuitton
Louis Vuitton, a master trunk maker, founded his house in Paris in 1854. In 1896 his son Georges created the Monogram canvas as a tribute to him (LVMH). Marc Jacobs took over as artistic director in 1997 (AFP via The Peninsula) and designed the house’s first ready-to-wear line (Sotheby’s); his departure was announced in October 2013 (AFP via The Peninsula). In 2001 he and Stephen Sprouse designed limited edition bags with graffiti over the Monogram (Sotheby’s). Nicolas Ghesquière has been artistic director since 2013, and Pharrell Williams has led menswear since 2023 (Britannica).
Luxe Charts follows four Louis Vuitton bags: the Speedy Bandoulière 25, the Neverfull MM, the Pochette Métis and the Alma BB. A further landmark is the collaboration with Takashi Murakami, first presented in 2002 and revived in 2025 (FashionUnited).
Louis Vuitton is among the most traded names in resale. Rebag’s 2024 Clair report placed it, with Chanel, among its “unicorns”, brands that keep more than 85% of their value (Fashion Dive). Fashionphile’s 2026 report ranks the Speedy as its top-shopped bag for the second year running and Louis Vuitton first among brands sold (Fashionphile); in 2025 the Pochette Métis was its top-shopped crossbody (Fashionphile). The RealReal reported rising Speedy resale values in 2025 (The RealReal), and its 2026 report put Chanel at the top of its most searched brands, displacing Louis Vuitton, which had led in 2024 and 2025 (FashionUnited). Before buying a Speedy, Fashionphile’s guide to spotting a fake is a useful check (Fashionphile).
