About Loewe

Loewe was founded in 1846 by a collective of artisans in Madrid, which the German merchant Enrique Loewe Roessberg united in 1872 (Harper’s Bazaar Malaysia). The house was appointed a supplier to the Spanish crown in 1905 (Harper’s Bazaar Malaysia), and the artist Vicente Vela created its Anagram in 1970 (LVMH). Jonathan Anderson became creative director in 2013 (LVMH). He stepped down in March 2025 after eleven years, and Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, the founders of Proenza Schouler, were named creative directors that month (Associated Press via NY1). The house marked its 180th anniversary in 2026 (Harper’s Bazaar Malaysia).

The Amazona, introduced in 1975, was designed for working women (Marie Claire), and McCollough and Hernandez revisited it as the Amazona 180 in their first collection (Harper’s Bazaar Malaysia). The Flamenco clutch, with its knotted ties, is dated to the 1980s by Harper’s Bazaar Malaysia (Harper’s Bazaar Malaysia) and to the 1970s by Elle (Elle). Anderson designed the Puzzle in 2015, according to the V&A, which holds a 2017 example cut from more than 40 pieces of leather (V&A). His Hammock of 2016 has side panels that can be released or folded in (Marie Claire).

On the pre-owned market, Rebag’s 2023 Clair Report grouped Loewe with the quiet luxury labels, gave it 60% value retention and called the Puzzle a top pick (Rebag). Fashionphile’s 2025 report found that the Puzzle sold 19.7% faster than the year before (Fashionphile). Puzzle listings should be compared size for size (Rebag). The RealReal advises that a genuine Puzzle has a leather tag stamped with a serial number and “Made in Spain”, with sharp corners (The RealReal).
