The story of the Flamenco Clutch
The Flamenco first appeared in the 1970s, according to Elle (Elle), a decade PurseBlog’s handbag history and Selfridges also give (PurseBlog, Selfridges). Stuart Vevers, then creative director, relaunched it in 2010 (Elle, Selfridges). Under Jonathan Anderson it stayed in the range, and in 2025 Marie Claire counted it, with the Puzzle, among the lasting favourites of his accessories (Marie Claire). Loewe describes it as one of its most recognisable shapes: smooth, supple leather, a gathered top designed to be cinched closed, and drawstring pulls finished with coiled knots (Loewe). Elle also points to the knots and the Anagram logo of the current version (Elle). It is made as a clutch, a shoulder bag and a crossbody, in large, medium and mini sizes, and the current range includes Coil and Pleats variations (Loewe). The medium clutch is in nappa calfskin with a suede lining, a magnetic closure and a detachable, adjustable strap (Loewe). A large clutch sold by Selfridges, in calfskin and made in Spain, measures 38 by 29 by 14 cm (Selfridges). When buying pre-owned, confirm the size and the variation first, since the line is wide. On a medium clutch, check that the strap is included, that the magnetic closure holds and that the knotted drawstrings are intact (Loewe).
