Bottega Veneta was founded in 1966 by Michele Taddei and Renzo Zengiaro (Business of Fashion). Its signature is the intrecciato weave, and the Cabat tote made in this weave became one of its best-selling products (Business of Fashion). Gucci Group, now part of Kering, acquired the company in 2001, and Tomas Maier was appointed creative director soon after (Business of Fashion). Daniel Lee, previously womenswear director at Celine, joined in July 2018 (Associated Press via KEYT). After his exit, Kering named Matthieu Blazy creative director in November 2021 (Reuters via Oman Observer). Louise Trotter, previously at Carven, succeeded Blazy in December 2024 and joined at the end of January 2025 (Associated Press via ABC News).
Under Lee, the brand’s squishable, sometimes thatched leather bags became It bags (Vogue Singapore), among them the mini Jodie, the Pouch and the Cassette (W Magazine). The Andiamo, in intrecciato with knot-shaped hardware, made its debut at Blazy’s second show for the house, in the Summer 2023 collection (Vogue Adria) (Interview).
