The story of the Neverfull
The Neverfull made its debut in 2007 (Louis Vuitton). The launch campaign, photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, starred Scarlett Johansson (Sotheby’s). The tote can be carried open or cinched at the sides for a narrower shape, and it came in PM, MM and GM sizes, with Damier Ebène and Damier Azur following the original Monogram canvas (Sotheby’s). A smaller BB is also made (Louis Vuitton).
Sotheby’s dates the detachable inner pouch and a range of Epi leather colours to 2013 (Sotheby’s). Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, citing Rebag’s 2023 Clair report, describes it as retaining its value well (Harper’s Bazaar Arabia). The house also makes a Neverfull Inside Out (Louis Vuitton).
On a pre-owned example, look for the date code on a leather tab under the right corner of the interior pocket, or on the lining seam of the pouch on the later model with a removable pouch (The RealReal). Check that the lining colour matches the year of the code (The RealReal). The vachetta straps should be thin and widen into a bulb at the base, with neat, subtly red edge glazing (The RealReal).
