About Gucci
Guccio Gucci founded the house, based in Florence, in 1921 (Britannica). The Bamboo bag dates from 1947, when scarce materials in post-war Italy led the house’s artisans to bamboo for the handle (Harper’s Bazaar Singapore). Tom Ford was creative director from 1994 to 2004 (Britannica). Alessandro Michele, in Gucci’s design office since 2002, was appointed creative director in January 2015 (FashionUnited). Kering named Sabato De Sarno creative director in January 2023 (Reuters via FashionNetwork). In March 2025 Demna, artistic director of Balenciaga since 2015, was named artistic director of Gucci from July that year (ANSA).

The Jackie was introduced in 1961 as the Constance and was renamed after Jacqueline Kennedy, who reportedly bought six in 1964 (Harper’s Bazaar Malaysia). Ford gave it a new buckle in 1999, and in 2020 Michele reissued it close to the original as the Jackie 1961 (Harper’s Bazaar Malaysia).
