The story of the GG Marmont
Alessandro Michele designed and debuted the GG Marmont in 2016 (Sotheby’s), early in his tenure as creative director (PurseBlog; Woman & Home). Its overlapping GG hardware comes in antique brass (Sotheby’s) and was inspired by a Gucci belt from the 1970s (Woman & Home; PurseBlog). The flap bag has a semi-puffed chevron quilt and comes in a range of leathers and velvets (Sotheby’s).
Sotheby’s writes that the Marmont encapsulated the very core of Michele’s creative style and calls the flap crossbody the most popular style of the line (Sotheby’s). The family grew to include totes, backpacks, belt bags and bucket bags (Sotheby’s), alongside mini, small and medium shoulder bags and camera bags (Woman & Home; PurseBlog).
