The story of the Hammock
The Hammock was introduced by Jonathan Anderson for spring-summer 2016, according to Harper’s Bazaar Singapore (Harper’s Bazaar Singapore), and PurseBlog also dates its debut to spring 2016 (PurseBlog). Its construction borrows from the structure of a hammock, so the bag can fold and change shape (Harper’s Bazaar Singapore). Anderson has described it as “urban craft” (Harper’s Bazaar Singapore). Loewe describes flexible sides that fold in and out to create different silhouettes (Loewe). A detachable strap allows it to be worn on the shoulder, across the body or by hand (Loewe). Each bag is made in classic, soft grained or satin calfskin (Loewe). The small version is in classic calfskin with a herringbone cotton canvas lining and an embossed Anagram (Loewe). The current range includes medium, small, mini and compact sizes, a mini hobo and a Hammock Flip (Loewe). Because the family is so varied, identify the exact version before comparing a pre-owned price. The lining helps: herringbone canvas on the small classic model.
