The story of the Arqué
The Arqué reinterprets an archival hobo shoulder bag from the 2000s (Harper’s Bazaar Malaysia). The crescent body is made from two pieces shaped on two wooden forms, and the shoulder strap runs the full length of the curve (Prada Group). The outside is soft calf leather and the lining is nappa (Prada Group). An enamelled metal triangle sits on the front (Harper’s Bazaar Malaysia). Its two adjustable, interchangeable handles let it be worn on the shoulder or across the body (Prada Group).
Prada now lists a mini in calfskin of 22.5 by 18.5 cm, with a zip closure, a nylon interior with a patch pocket, and a detachable, adjustable handle and shoulder strap (Prada). Later versions have used patent leather, suede, leopard print and shearling (Harper’s Bazaar Malaysia).
When buying pre-owned, check that both the curved top handle and the shoulder strap are included, since both detach (Bagaholicboy). On the triangle logo, the R has a curved notch and an outward-angled leg, and zips should be engraved with a supplier name such as Lampo, Riri or YKK (1stDibs). Ask for the authenticity card and its serial number (1stDibs).
