The story of the Re-Edition 2000

Prada first released its nylon bags in 1984 (Harper’s Bazaar UK), in an industrial nylon used for army tents (Dezeen). Harper’s Bazaar places the Re-Edition 2000 and the Re-Edition 2005 within the revival of Noughties fashion on recent runways (Harper’s Bazaar UK). Prada itself calls the bag a new interpretation of an iconic Prada style (Prada).

The current mini bag is made in Re-Nylon, produced from recycled plastic collected in the ocean, fishing nets and textile waste fibres (Prada). It closes with a zip, has a woven tape handle and bears the enamelled metal triangle logo, with a logo print Re-Nylon lining (Prada). Bustle notes that it is often confused with the Re-Edition 2005, which is close in form but slightly larger, while the 2000 is carried by its woven tape handle (Bustle).

When buying pre-owned, look for the details that PurseBlog lists on the reissue: a Saffiano zip pull and a removable Saffiano tag reading “Prada Re-Edition 2000” (PurseBlog). Prada nylon bags are fully stitched, never glued, with a straight logo plaque, and zips are engraved with a supplier name such as Lampo, Riri or YKK (1stDibs).
