The story of the Cleo
The Cleo made its debut in Prada’s Multiple Views spring/summer 2021 show (Vogue Singapore). Vogue Singapore writes that it was inspired by Prada’s archival styles and made with traditional craft techniques on custom lasts in the house’s ateliers (Vogue Singapore). Prada describes it as a reinterpretation of archive codes through a curved, immediately recognisable silhouette, in brushed leather, a signature of the house (Prada).
In March 2021 Vogue Singapore reported three new colours, fiordaliso blue, alabastro pink and deserto beige, with additional piping, adjustable straps and larger sizing (Vogue Singapore). The current flap version is in calfskin, closes with a magnetic flap bearing an enamelled metal triangle, and has a logo-print Re-Nylon interior with a patch pocket and a leather handle with an extension for cross-body wear (Prada).
When buying pre-owned, look closely at the brushed finish, edges and hardware. A Fashionphile condition report on a black Cleo lists scuffs and edge wear on the exterior and scratches on the hardware (Fashionphile). Check the logo lining (PurseBlog). On the triangle logo the R has a curved notch and an outward leg, and hardware should be stamped with the Prada name (1stDibs).
