Entry-level luxury icons and what they cost new today

Not every icon of a great house costs five figures. Among the 126 bags and jewellery pieces Luxe Charts follows, a group of well-known designs costs €2,500 or less new in the boutique, or starts below that in at least one euro area country for jewellery. This guide brings them together, with what each one is and its boutique price today. That price is also the benchmark for buying the same piece pre-owned: it tells you what the alternative costs new, and how far an asking price really sits below it.

All prices below are new in the boutique, as each brand publishes them on its own website in the euro area. For bags the price is the same across the euro area countries where the brand publishes it; for jewellery it changes from country to country, so we give the range.

Prada Re-Edition 2000 Mini: €980

Prada first released its nylon bags in 1984 (Harper’s Bazaar UK), in an industrial nylon used for army tents (Dezeen). Prada calls the Re-Edition 2000 a new interpretation of an iconic Prada style. The current mini is made in Re-Nylon, closes with a zip, has a woven tape handle and carries the enamelled metal triangle logo (Prada). It shares the lowest boutique price among the bags we follow, €980, with the Gucci Dionysus Super Mini, and it is up 66% since 2021, when it cost €590.

Celine Ava in Triomphe canvas: €1,400

The Ava, a crescent-shaped bag, is one of the signature silhouettes of the Hedi Slimane era at Celine and has been around since 2020 (Marie Claire). In Triomphe canvas it has calfskin trims, an adjustable leather strap and a zip closure (24S). The Ava costs €1,400 new, up 43% since 2020, when it was €980.

Loewe Puzzle Fold Tote: from €1,500

The Puzzle Fold Tote went on sale in July 2023 with Loewe’s autumn/winter 2023 pre-collection (Harper’s Bazaar Malaysia; PurseBlog). It opens from flat to standing in one gesture, then folds back into a compact square (Harper’s Bazaar Malaysia; 10 Magazine). The Mini costs €1,500 and the Medium €1,700. Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM: €1,550

The Neverfull made its debut in 2007 (Louis Vuitton). The tote can be carried open or cinched at the sides for a narrower shape, and it came in PM, MM and GM sizes (Sotheby’s). The Neverfull MM costs €1,550 new and is up 81% since 2014.

Van Cleef & Arpels Sweet Alhambra bracelet: from €1,560

Van Cleef & Arpels created the first Alhambra long necklace in 1968. The motif is inspired by the four-leaf clover and framed by a beaded contour, and Sweet Alhambra presents it in miniature formats (Van Cleef & Arpels). The Sweet Alhambra bracelet in yellow gold and mother-of-pearl costs from €1,560 to €1,670 depending on the country. In France it is €1,600, up 29% since 2021, when it was €1,240.

Louis Vuitton Speedy Bandoulière 25 and Alma BB: €1,650

The Speedy appeared in 1930 under the name Express, a compact bag drawn by Gaston-Louis Vuitton (Louis Vuitton). Harper’s Bazaar and Sotheby’s both report that Audrey Hepburn asked in 1965 for a smaller bag, which became the Speedy 25 (Harper’s Bazaar India; Sotheby’s), and the Bandoulière arrived in 2011 with a detachable, adjustable shoulder strap (Harper’s Bazaar India). The Speedy Bandoulière 25 costs €1,650, up 76% since 2014.

The Alma traces its pedigree to an Art Deco original introduced in 1934 (Louis Vuitton), and the smaller BB joined the long-standing PM, MM and GM sizes more recently (Sotheby’s). The Alma BB also costs €1,650, up 6% since 2024.

Prada Re-Edition 2005 Re-Nylon bag: €1,690

The Re-Edition 2005 is inspired by the mini hobo of the mid-2000s (Marie Claire). It combines a removable chain handle, a detachable woven nylon strap, a removable zipped pouch and Saffiano trim (Prada). The Re-Edition 2005 costs €1,690, up 21% since 2022. On a pre-owned example, check that the chain, the strap and the pouch are all there, since each one detaches.

Loewe Flamenco Clutch Mini: €2,000

The Flamenco first appeared in the 1970s, according to Elle, a decade PurseBlog and Selfridges also give, and Stuart Vevers, then creative director, relaunched it in 2010 (Elle; PurseBlog; Selfridges). Its gathered top is cinched closed with drawstrings finished in coiled knots (Loewe). The Flamenco Clutch Mini costs €2,000.

Gucci GG Marmont Small: €2,100

Alessandro Michele designed and debuted the GG Marmont in 2016 (Sotheby’s). Its overlapping GG hardware was inspired by a Gucci belt from the 1970s (Woman & Home; PurseBlog). The GG Marmont Small costs €2,100, with no change in the checks we have.

Loewe Puzzle Edge Mini: €2,200

The Puzzle was the first bag Jonathan Anderson designed for Loewe after becoming creative director in 2013, and it was released in 2015 (V&A). It folds completely flat (W Magazine). The Puzzle Edge Mini costs €2,200.

Louis Vuitton Pochette Métis: €2,300

Louis Vuitton describes the Pochette Métis as a compact, go-everywhere model in Monogram canvas with an S-lock closure, a top handle and a long detachable strap (Louis Vuitton). The Pochette Métis costs €2,300, up 65% since 2019.

Cartier Trinity ring: from €2,320

The Trinity traces back to a ring of three interconnecting bands that Louis Cartier presented in 1924 (Lyon & Turnbull). The Trinity classic ring costs from €2,320 to €2,530 depending on the country. In France it is €2,380, up 12% since 2024, when it was €2,120.

What these prices mean pre-owned

A lower boutique price does not make a piece a safer buy, and it does not mean it rose less. Several of the bags here have risen fast: the Neverfull MM is up 81% since 2014, the Speedy Bandoulière 25 76%, the Re-Edition 2000 Mini 66% since 2021. When the boutique price moves, the reference for every pre-owned asking price moves with it, so compare a listing with today’s price, not with a figure from a few years ago.

Two details make the comparison fair. Compare the delivered price, the listed price plus the buyer’s fee and the shipping, not the listed price alone. And check that every removable part is included: straps, chains and pouches are part of the bag as sold, and a listing without them is not the same product as the one on the model page.
