Chanel Classic Flap sizes compared: Mini, Small, Medium, Jumbo, Maxi

The Classic Flap comes in more sizes than most buyers expect, and the names used by sellers do not always match Chanel’s own. This guide compares the six sizes Luxe Charts follows, with the official measurements, the leather of the boutique version and its price new, so you can tell which size a listing really is and which one suits you before you judge a pre-owned price.

The six sizes at a glance

Sotheby’s describes the Classic Flap as made in small, medium, jumbo and maxi, with a single-flap mini added in 2010, in lambskin or caviar leather (Sotheby’s). Luxe Charts follows two minis and the four larger sizes. Measurements are width × height × depth, from Chanel’s official pages; the strap is not included. Prices are new in the boutique, the same in the 11 euro area countries where Chanel publishes them, last checked on 14 October 2026.

Size Chanel’s name Measurements Leather New in the boutique
Square Mini Mini classic handbag 17 × 13.5 × 8 cm Lambskin €4,850
Rectangular Mini Mini classic handbag 20 × 12 × 6 cm Lambskin €5,050
Small Small classic handbag 23 × 14.5 × 6 cm Grained calfskin €10,100
Medium Classic 11.12 handbag 25.5 × 15.5 × 6.5 cm Lambskin €10,500
Jumbo Large classic handbag 30 × 19.5 × 10 cm Grained calfskin €11,300
Maxi Maxi classic handbag 33 × 23 × 10 cm Grained calfskin €11,900

The two Minis: same name, different shape

Chanel calls both minis the Mini classic handbag and tells them apart only by their measurements. The Square Mini is 17 cm wide and 13.5 cm high, compact and almost square, and the deeper of the two at 8 cm. The Rectangular Mini is 20 cm wide and 12 cm high: wider and lower, and slimmer at 6 cm deep. Both are in lambskin in the versions we follow. Sotheby’s dates the single-flap mini to 2010.

On price, the two sit close together: €4,850 for the Square Mini and €5,050 for the Rectangular Mini. They are the lowest-priced sizes of the line and also the two that rose the least, 45% and 44% since 2020. A listing titled only “Mini” can be either one, so the width is the first thing to ask for.

The Small and the Medium: the classic middle

The Small measures 23 × 14.5 × 6 cm and the Medium 25.5 × 15.5 × 6.5 cm. The Medium is the size that gave the line its current name: Chanel lists it as the Classic 11.12 handbag, after A01112, the style code of the medium size (Sotheby’s). Sotheby’s also calls this double flap design the Classic Double Flap, now known as the 11.12 (Sotheby’s).

Two points to keep in mind when comparing them. First, the leather differs in the versions we follow: the Small is grained calfskin, the Medium lambskin, so the two prices do not measure size alone. Second, the two sizes are close in price, €10,100 for the Small and €10,500 for the Medium, but they did not rise in the same way: the Small is up 84% since 2020, the biggest rise of the six, the Medium 74%. To picture the scale, the Medium page draws the bag next to a bank card of 8.56 × 5.4 cm, at the same scale.

The Jumbo and the Maxi: the large sizes

Chanel lists the Jumbo as the Large classic handbag, which is worth knowing when a listing uses one name and the official page the other. It measures 30 × 19.5 × 10 cm, so it is wider than the Medium and also deeper. The Maxi is the largest of the six, at 33 × 23 × 10 cm. Both are in grained calfskin in the versions we follow.

They are the two highest prices of the line, €11,300 for the Jumbo and €11,900 for the Maxi, yet a bigger bag does not mean a bigger rise: since 2020 the Jumbo is up 71% and the Maxi 68%, less than the Small and the Medium. The full history of all six sizes is in the Chanel Classic Flap price history report.

How to choose between them

Start from the measurements, not the names. A size name in a listing is the seller’s word; the width, height and depth are facts you can check. Each model page has a drawing of the bag at scale with the bank card outline, and all six sizes drawn at one scale, side by side. The Classic Flap line page lists the width and price of every size in one table. If you already carry a bag you like, measure it and find the closest Classic Flap in the table above.

Then look at depth as well as width, because the order changes: the Square Mini, at 8 cm, is deeper than the Rectangular Mini, the Small and the Medium, and the Jumbo and the Maxi are both 10 cm deep.

Then decide on the leather. In the versions Luxe Charts follows, the Minis and the Medium are lambskin and the Small, the Jumbo and the Maxi are grained calfskin. Sotheby’s notes that the line is made in both lambskin and caviar leather, so a pre-owned bag may come in either. The boutique price on our pages belongs to the version shown on the page; the same size in another material can have another price.

Checking a pre-owned listing against its size

Once you know the size you want, the boutique price for that size is the reference for any pre-owned asking price. Three checks make the comparison fair.

Ask for measurements taken with a ruler and compare them with the table above. The Small and the Medium are close in size, and so are the Jumbo and the Maxi, so a measurement is what tells them apart.

Ask which leather, colour and hardware the bag is. The boutique Medium today is black lambskin with gold-tone metal, reference A01112 B25747 94305, and older ones used A01112 Y01295 94305 (Classic Flap Medium). A listing in a different version is a different product.

Look at the quilting. It should be centred, and the diamonds on the back should line up with the pocket stitching (Madison Avenue Couture). These checks help you compare a listing with the official facts; they do not prove that a bag is genuine, and Luxe Charts does not authenticate anything. Buy from a seller that says who authenticates and what happens if an item is not authentic.

For the story of the line, see the Classic Flap page. All six sizes are also on the Chanel bags page.
