The story of the Le 5 à 7
Le 5 à 7 first appeared with Anthony Vaccarello’s spring 2021 collection for Saint Laurent (Bustle, WWD). Vaccarello, creative director from 2016, whose departure the house confirmed in October 2026 (FashionUnited), counts among his favourite films Cléo de 5 à 7, which gave the bag its name and follows a singer through a June evening as she waits for the result of a biopsy (WWD). The bag is a hobo worn on the shoulder, and its adjustable strap lets it sit directly under the arm (WWD). Its focal point is the gold YSL logo, which doubles as the clasp, and every version is lined in suede (WWD). The family now runs from the Mini Hobo through the Hobo and the Soft Hobo to the Bea tote, the largest, with expandable sides, in materials that include smooth and grained leather, patent, suede, satin, raffia, canvas and croc-embossed leather (WWD). It has been widely photographed: in 2024 WWD reported that Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber had all been seen carrying versions of it (WWD). On a pre-owned example, inspect the smooth calfskin closely, since it is soft and more prone to scratches (PurseBlog).
