The story of the By The Way
The By The Way made its debut for fall-winter 2014 as a Boston-style bag (PurseBlog, Rain). That October PurseBlog listed it among the best new bags of the season, on sale at Net-a-Porter (PurseBlog). In August 2024 V Magazine reported that the bag was celebrating ten years (V Magazine), as did Bagaholicboy (Bagaholicboy). Fendi’s accessories had long been shaped by Silvia Venturini Fendi, who oversaw them from 1994 (Elle Singapore, PurseBlog). In 2019 Elle India noted that it could be carried four ways: on a long strap, as a doctor’s bag, as a Boston bag and as a clutch (Elle India). The anniversary version has a relaxed Selleria silhouette in soft Cuoio Romano leather, in three sizes, with FF jacquard options in medium and mini (V Magazine). It went on sale on 22 August 2024 and is unstructured, with tonal handcrafted stitching, an oversized leather zip pull, a Selleria leather tag and a detachable shoulder strap (PurseBlog). When buying pre-owned, the first question is which generation the bag belongs to. A structured body points to the 2014 design; a slouchy shape with Selleria stitching and a leather tag marks the 2024 relaunch (PurseBlog). On the 2024 version, check that the shoulder strap is present, and inspect the zip pull and the stitching (PurseBlog).
