The story of the Book Tote
Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s artistic director, introduced the Book Tote in the Spring/Summer 2018 collection (V&A; Dior). The V&A holds a 2020 example given by the house: a canvas tote with two top handles, designed in France, made in Italy and embroidered with the Dior Oblique motif and the Christian Dior signature (V&A).
Its surface has carried artists’ work such as Pietro Ruffo’s Dior Around the World motif (Dior). For his debut Spring/Summer 2026 collection, Jonathan Anderson put the covers of books such as Dracula and Les Liaisons Dangereuses on the tote (Marie Claire; Harper’s Bazaar Malaysia). The medium in this Book Cover Collection comes with a strap (Dior).
When buying, measure the bag. Dior gives the large at 42 by 35 by 18.5 cm and the medium at 36 by 27.5 by 16.5 cm (Dior; Dior), though its own listings vary slightly by version (Dior). Check the interior date code (Libas Collective).
